Bohemia
As a rapper, Roger David was known by his stage name Bohemia. He's a Pakistani-American rapper from California who is thought to be the first Punjabi rapper. He released the first Punjabi rap album in 2002.
Bohemia was born in Karachi, Sindh, into a family that was both Punjabi and Christian. This is because at least one of his parents was Sikh at some point. He has a bible and a book called the Guru Granth Sahib at home. His father worked for Pakistan International Airline, and he had a job there.
The family went to Lahore, where he spent most of his childhood, then moved to Peshawar for seven years. When he was in his early teens, his family moved to the United States. They settled in San Francisco's Mission District, which is where they lived.
Learning music from his father and writing Punjabi poetry were both things he did around that time, too. He sometimes played keyboards at local events for the Desi community. In Urdu and Punjabi, he wrote songs and poems, mostly about love and life. She died when he was 16.
There were also recording studio jobs in Sacramento for him to do at the same time. As a musician, he dropped out of school and left his family to do it full time. he went on tour with a group of other musicians. They played gigs and slept in cars and on recording studio floors while they were on the road.
Sha One is the name of a young hip-hop producer. His cousin was working at a recording studio in West Oakland. He met Sha One when he came to visit his cousin. As soon as she heard Bohemia start to read something he had written in Punjabi, she asked him to rap it over one of his beats. Over the next few months, Bohemia wrote the lyrics for his first album, Vich Pardesan De (In The Foreign Land). It was a story about how he had to adapt to life in the United States as a Desi youngster.
Vich Pardesan De, which he made on his own, was in the top 10 on BBC Radio UK in 2002. For Chandni Chowk to China, he also sang the title song. He starred with Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone in the movie.
